Haikou China - Hai Kou Org

Near the tip of the Hainan Island is Haikou, a bustling city populated by about near a million people. This city capital is the center of trade and industry in the island, as well as a popular tourist destination. Its name means “mouth of the sea”, since it nestles along the Nandu river that flows out into the vast South China Sea. Yet, the city is dubbed as the “coconut city”: a visitor would readily see coconut palms lining up the place.

Getting to the city is not really difficult. There are ferries that go back and forth the mainland China. There are also world-class airports that carry passengers to and from different destinations around the world. Highways and roadways were developed to cater to land tourists and businessmen as well.

Tourists are attracted to the city for its lovely beaches and ancient sites. The Wugong Temple, Hairui Tomb and the Xiuying Emplacement all serve as reminders of the Haikou’s past. Fine restaurants, exciting nightlife, world-class hotels and shopping centers add to the convenience of these travelers. There are also theme parks that were developed to attract more tourists. Truly, this city is molded into a magnificent place to behold.

It is not really difficult to see why Haikou has always been the great city outside mainland China since the ancient times. Its monsoon tropical climate and seaside location has provided a lot of natural resources. Its proximity to the mainland makes it a convenient port for trading, way back since the late Qing Dynasty. Because of this, Haikou draws a lot of people seeking new opportunities; it is, without a doubt, hailed by many as a land of promise. The people here are a mix of different Chinese groups, as a result of this migration. In these modern times, towering buildings are also seen around the metropolis, manufacturing industries are also found, and resorts line up the coastal area, which makes it a highly urbanized city.

The city is indeed a nice mix of contrasting east and west culture, of modern and folk traditions, of fast-paced and relaxing lives, and of business and pleasure. It is a booming city that shall always strive to create a balance between these Yin and Yang forces. This fact makes the place so uniquely blended, and without a doubt, makes it one of the most visited places in China and a world-class travel destination.
